Liverpool and Manchester United are set to battle for the signature of one of Serie A’s most promising players.
The January transfer window is already in full swing, with clubs able to strengthen their squads from January 1 to 31.
Liverpool remain linked with a few players, but no additions have been made six days into the winter transfer window.
Martin Zubimendi, Milos Kerkez, Omar Marmoush, and Rayan Cherki are some of the popular names linked with an Anfield switch this winter.
However, Liverpool’s interest in Kerkez has cooled in the last few days, with Manchester United now reportedly ahead in the race for the Hungarian, who recently joined Federico Chiesa’s player agency.
Like Liverpool, the Red Devils are said to be on the lookout for a left back and have identified Kerkez as a possible option.
However, the latest report suggests they are also considering another Liverpool target as a left-back option.
Manchester United scouting Lecce left-back
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are considering Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu.
The Denmark international has previously been linked with Liverpool.
Last year, Italian outlet Calcio Mercato reported that the Reds were ‘first to inquire’ over the signing of €20million-rated Lecce man.
Last summer, Dorgu’s agent (Kingsley Ogbodo) named-checked Liverpool as one of the clubs keen on his client.
“No, they haven’t made any offers, but it is very likely that Liverpool will make one,” Ogbodo said.
“I don’t know if it will happen, but they are interested, and they like the player.”
Dorgu joined his current club, Lecce, for €200,000 from Nordsjaelland U19s last summer and has been steadily improving since.
He has been ever-present for the Italian club this season, having already notched 20 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals.
According to Romano, Man United have set their sights on the 20-year-old as a possible cheaper alternative for Milos Kerkez and PSG defender Nuno Mendes.
“Manchester United keep looking at LWBs as they’ve also added Denmark international Patrick Dorgu to their list,” Romano said on X.
“Milos Kerkez and Nuno Mendes are higher on the list but more expensive.
Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto also confirmed Romano’s report that United are interested in signing the left-back.
